Shooting death on Alec Baldwin film set

Cameron — A terrible accident happened on the set of Alec Baldwin's new movie, "Rust." A gun used as a prop killed the film's Director of Photography, Halyna Hutchins. The incident has caused outrage and a new demand to stop using real guns on movie sets. Petition starter Bandar knew Halyna, and started this petition demanding Hollywood productions stop using real guns. "We need to make sure this never happens again," Bandar writes. Sign his petition and tell Hollywood: no more real guns as props on sets.

Time to ban the use of real firearms on set and demand better crew working conditions!

65,253 have signed Bandar Albuliwi's petition. Let's get to 75,000!

On October 21st, 2021 we lost an unbelievably talented cinematographer on the film set of RUST, due to a real gun being discharged with live ammunition in it. I am in shock and numb to my core. The bullet also wounded Director Joel Souza.

Halyna graduated from the AFI Conservatory in 2015 with a MFA in Cinematography. I graduated in 2010 with a MFA in Directing. Like everyone in the "AFI Family", we all knew one another. AFI is a very small community of filmmakers, trying their hardest to get their "big break" in the film industry after graduating from the program.

This up and coming Cinematographer was named as an ASC "Rising Star Cinematographer" in 2019, and was finally breaking into the Hollywood film industry after hustling and shooting amazing content for half a decade. She shot three feature films prior to Rust, but this would have been the movie that would have put her on the Hollywood map as a talented, female cinematographer working with an A-list celebrity.

We need to make sure that this avoidable tragedy never happens again. There is no excuse for something like this to happen in the 21st century. Real guns are no longer needed on film production sets. This isn't the early 90's, when Brandon Lee was killed in the same manner. Change needs to happen before additional talented lives are lost.

Please sign this petition and demand for Alec Baldwin to use his power and influence in the Hollywood film industry to make change and ban real guns on film sets.

While we're at this topic, this would be a good time to begin discussing the horrendous working conditions of those who work in the film industry (both Hollywood and Independent Features).

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN AND WE DEMAND CHANGE!

Re: Amazon merchandise

Cameron — Opioids – especially Fentanyl – continue to wreak havoc on communities around the country. One mom who lost her son after he overdosed on Fentanyl is taking action. She noticed that Amazon and Etsy sell T-shirts glorifying the use of Fentanyl. They include shirts that say "Live, Laugh, Overdose," and "Keep Calm and Let Fentanyl Handle It." This mom wants Amazon and Etsy to prohibit shirts that promote drug use. Add your name to her petition urging Amazon and Etsy to act.

Tell Amazon and Etsy T-shirts promoting drug use are NOT funny!

My son died when he used cocaine unknowingly laced with Fentanyl.  Another young, 18 yr old family friend recently died when he took a pill that turned out to be a fake Oxytocin pressed with Fentanyl. Last year, according to the latest CDC provisional data, over 93,000 Americans died from overdose during the 12 month period between December 2019 and December 2020.  It is estimated that the majority of those deaths were due to opioids, primarily synthetic Fentanyl that is pouring into our country.  Our kids are dying in record numbers, sometimes after trying pills just one time. There is nothing funny about T-shirts that promote drug use.

And there is nothing funny about the potential dangers faced everyday by Law Enforcement and the general public when it comes to this highly potent opioid.  It is irresponsible to support the proliferation of any messaging that minimizes the dangers of illicit drug use - particularly Fentanyl - which takes only 2 milligrams or less to end a life and is 50 to 100 times more potent than Morphine.

We are calling on Amazon and other retailers like Etsy and Redbubble to stop the sale of T-shirts that minimize or seek to satirize or joke about the use of Fentanyl or any other addictive, harmful, illicit drug.  It's time to Speakup About Drugs to save lives! Please sign the petition to ask Amazon to REMOVE these T-shirts from their marketplace.
